July Recorded as Hottest Month on Earth

Part of our reading program includes reading and responding to articles from
Kiwikidsnews.  This includes news from Aotearoa and from the world.
Article

1. Find a quote from the main person in this news article?

Scientists say:’Global climate change and the impacts of the El Nino weather pattern are behind the record level temperatures’.

The article only mentions a quote from Jake Crouch “The world is warming. It is continuing to warm. That is being shown time and time again in our data,”

2. In your own words describe what happened in this news article.

Scientists in America have been recording temperatures since 1880 and 9 of the 10 hottest months have been occurred since 2005. Scientists from the National Centers for Environmental Information have found out that the degrees in July was 0.08 hotter than the previous record by 0.08 degrees. Scientists say that the first 7 months of 2015 have set all time temperature records and that each century the temperature rises bu 0.65.

3. Find out where this event took place and include some information about this place.

The only place the article mentions is America because it says they are American Scientists.

4. Tell us when this event happened and explain what might happen in the future.

I am estimating that it was before 28th of August because the article was written on that date. The scientists probably are going to forward their research on the rising temperature.

5. Explain in your own words why this event took place.

I don’t know but through research it seems that it is caused because of the ‘greenhouse effect’ it is that radiation from the atmosphere is warming the surface of the planet causing the temperature to rise.

6. Use the Dictionary in the bottom right hand corner to find the meaning of 3 words from the article.

Significant - Sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention
Period - A length or portion of time.

Environmental - Relating to the natural world and the impact of human activity on its condition.

Wood Work

From the second week of this term and up to the fifth week at technicraft, each of us has on designing an artwork on wood. This has involved choosing and tracing an image, burning, painting and cutting our creations.

  1. First I chose my three cartoon characters  (Raven, Anais and Winnie the Pooh).
  2. Using tracing paper we copied our characters on to wood.
  3. Then we used the burner to burn the outlines and other details.
  4. Then carefully using paints  we colored in the characters.
  5. We then cut them out.

Fishing

I am learning to add more detail to my recounts.

Image result for clipart fishingSplash, splash! There were 3 fish on the line.
It was the first week of school holidays my family except my older sister went fishing. We went to our special fishing spot it was 30 minutes away.
When we got there my dad and I went to the back of the car to get our rods and hooks. But on our way to the wharf my little sister cried and cried. “Ahhhhh” she screamed as loud as she could. She was upset we were leaving her. In the end, we had to bring her on to the wharf.
‘Wooosssshhhh plop’ that was the sound of my dad setting out the line and it going into the water. I held my rod full of hope that I would catch a fish. Suddenly the rod shook very hard. I’ve never caught a fish like this before this before. I reeled it on to the wharf and when I saw what was on the line, it all made sense because there wasn’t one fish but three fish.
Again my dad set out the line and again I was very hopeful that I’d catch another. A while after the line was set out I felt the rod shake. I pulled and reeled until I could the hooks, I looked at what was on the line with excitement because there was another fish. Moments after the next line dropped into the water it suddenly began to shake, I reeled it up hoping it’s not a baby snapper we weren’t allowed to keep those but wasn’t so we could keep it.
Finally when we got home I was very happy because for dinner was the fish I caught. My dad usually catches the fish or we buy it from the store. when we got home we ate. But it wasn’t from the store, it was the fish I caught.  At the end of the day, I felt happy that I had caught all that fish,.  I was  tired, sleepy but, I also felt proud of myself because I had achieved my goal.  At the end of the day, I felt happy that I had caught something, I was  tired, sleepy but, I also felt proud of myself because I had achieved my goal.
