Pet for Christmas

Some people think a pet for Christmas is fun and something nice to give. But I think otherwise, I have a couple of reasons that will question what you'll get for that special someone.
The first drawback of giving a pet is the gigantic amount of responsibility you're giving to the person. For children who are between 3 - 8, gift givers need to remember that pets rely on their owners for absolutely everything. Not just that, but what if the pet has not yet been trained, this is a very challenging and essential part of a pets training, they (the pets) won't know if you're mad after they do something wrong. This naturally becomes more work for parents. If the person and family you plan on giving the pet to, have a very scheduled life, it could be very hard for them to provide the care needed and at this time of the year, having a pet can present another challenge of who will care for it, if the family are going on holiday.       Second, allergies. Many children and sometime their parents and other siblings, have pet allergies. If the person you're giving the pet to is allergic, it will be difficult for them to take care of it. Especially if you don't know what they're exactly allergic to. Keep in mind allergies get worse the more you're exposed to it.
Third, with anything or anyone there is always a cost (money). Just like humans, animals need to healthy and provided with proper care. Before you get  a pet you need to consider the cost of yearly veterinary care, food and other equipment. Additionally outdoor pets are most likely to be infected with pest infestation.
Another drawback of giving a pet is the scheduling issue. This might be  a problem for working families with or without kids. Finding time to take care and provide for the pet and the family. Cats, for example, are nocturnal (active at night), you are most likely to find them on top of you in the middle of the night. Similarly, dogs and other exotic animals like parrots and birds will find an urge to make the most noise.
I 100% feel that pets or any kind of animal aren't good presents for Christmas. Becoming a pet owner is a big decision and you still need to know whether the pperson is ready for this responsibility. Finally, pets are huge time consumers and aren't very cost efficient. So, what are you getting your special someone?

We a discussing whether or not giving a pet for Christmas is a good idea. This is my opinion about the matter.

Youngest Person with Bionic Hand

Part of our reading program includes reading and responding to articles from

Kiwikidsnews.  This includes news from Aotearoa and from the world.

Article

1. Find a quote from the main person in this news article?

“I got it put on about two days ago. It feels quite heavy. I can stick my thumb up. I can make a pinch grip, I can get a grip for cutting with a knife,” Josh said. That is all the article mentions about any statements.

2. In your own words describe what happened in this news article.

Nine year-old Josh Cathcart was born without a right hand from the elbow down. Josh is now the youngest person to ever get a bionic hand. He is very happy for he used to get badly bullied.

3. Find out where this event took place and include some information about this place.

The article has mentioned only a bit of information that is was in Scotland.

4. Tell us when this event happened and explain what might happen in the future.

The article was written on the 26ht of August and it also mentions that Josh got his new arm two days before the article was written. I think that they will try make a newer version of the arm and try to sent to other places.

5. Explain in your own words why this event took place.

This is unexplainable because this would have never happened if Josh wasn't born with a right hand.

6. Use the Dictionary in the bottom right hand corner to find the meaning of 3 words from the article.

2. In your own words describe what happened in this news article.

Soon to be parents sometimes like to get a 4D Ultrasound. One couple got quite a shocking fright. The screen showed a baby with white eyes and what looks like an evil smirk.

4. Tell us when this event happened and explain what might happen in the future.

The article does not mention an exact date but the article was written on the 14th of August, so I’m estimating it was before this. I am hoping for the soon to be parents that this was just a glitch and that their future will be bright.

There is no logical explanation for what happened.

July Recorded as Hottest Month on Earth

Part of our reading program includes reading and responding to articles from
Kiwikidsnews.  This includes news from Aotearoa and from the world.
Article

1. Find a quote from the main person in this news article?

Scientists say:’Global climate change and the impacts of the El Nino weather pattern are behind the record level temperatures’.

The article only mentions a quote from Jake Crouch “The world is warming. It is continuing to warm. That is being shown time and time again in our data,”

2. In your own words describe what happened in this news article.

Scientists in America have been recording temperatures since 1880 and 9 of the 10 hottest months have been occurred since 2005. Scientists from the National Centers for Environmental Information have found out that the degrees in July was 0.08 hotter than the previous record by 0.08 degrees. The only place the article mentions is America because it says they are American Scientists.

I don’t know but through research it seems that it is caused because of the ‘greenhouse effect’ it is that radiation from the atmosphere is warming the surface of the planet causing the temperature to rise.

Wood Work

From the second week of this term and up to the fifth week at technicraft, each of us has on designing an artwork on wood. This has involved choosing and tracing an image, burning, painting and cutting our creations.

  1. First I chose my three cartoon characters  (Raven, Anais and Winnie the Pooh).
  2. Using tracing paper we copied our characters on to wood.
  3. Then we used the burner to burn the outlines and other details.
  4. Then carefully using paints  we colored in the characters.
  5. We then cut them out.

Fishing

I am learning to add more detail to my recounts.

Image result for clipart fishingSplash, splash! There were 3 fish on the line.
It was the first week of school holidays my family except my older sister went fishing. We went to our special fishing spot it was 30 minutes away.
When we got there my dad and I went to the back of the car to get our rods and hooks. But on our way to the wharf my little sister cried and cried. “Ahhhhh” she screamed as loud as she could. She was upset we were leaving her. In the end, we had to bring her on to the wharf.
‘Wooosssshhhh plop’ that was the sound of my dad setting out the line and it going into the water. I held my rod full of hope that I would catch a fish. Suddenly the rod shook very hard. I’ve never caught a fish like this before this before. I reeled it on to the wharf and when I saw what was on the line, it all made sense because there wasn’t one fish but three fish.
Again my dad set out the line and again I was very hopeful that I’d catch another. A while after the line was set out I felt the rod shake. I pulled and reeled until I could the hooks, I looked at what was on the line with excitement because there was another fish. Moments after the next line dropped into the water it suddenly began to shake, I reeled it up hoping it’s not a baby snapper we weren’t allowed to keep those but wasn’t so we could keep it.
Finally when we got home I was very happy because for dinner was the fish I caught. My dad usually catches the fish or we buy it from the store. when we got home we ate. But it wasn’t from the store, it was the fish I caught.  At the end of the day, I felt happy that I had caught all that fish,.  I was  tired, sleepy but, I also felt proud of myself because I had achieved my goal.  At the end of the day, I felt happy that I had caught something, I was  tired, sleepy but, I also felt proud of myself because I had achieved my goal.
