Youngest Person with Bionic Hand

Part of our reading program includes reading and responding to articles from

Kiwikidsnews.  This includes news from Aotearoa and from the world.

Article

1. Find a quote from the main person in this news article?

“I got it put on about two days ago. It feels quite heavy. I can stick my thumb up. I can make a pinch grip, I can get a grip for cutting with a knife,” Josh said. That is all the article mentions about any statements.

2. In your own words describe what happened in this news article.

Nine year-old Josh Cathcart was born without a right hand from the elbow down. Josh is now the youngest person to ever get a bionic hand. He is very happy for he used to get badly bullied.

3. Find out where this event took place and include some information about this place.

The article has mentioned only a bit of information that is was in Scotland.

4. Tell us when this event happened and explain what might happen in the future.

The article was written on the 26ht of August and it also mentions that Josh got his new arm two days before the article was written. I think that they will try make a newer version of the arm and try to sent to other places.

5. Explain in your own words why this event took place.

This is unexplainable because this would have never happened if Josh wasn't born with a right hand.

6. Use the Dictionary in the bottom right hand corner to find the meaning of 3 words from the article.

bionic - Having artificial body parts, especially electromechanical ones.
electrodes - Having artificial body parts, especially electromechanical ones.
