It was the 16th of August 1914. Maori chiefs and maori men came to debate at the marae. They argued back and fourth about whether or to fight in the British war. After some discussion, the next chief went right into his point. His point was that maori should fight because what if they got caught in the war. With his point still going around he added that they should fight with the New Zealanders as equals. In the end a decision was reached and they decided to fight in the war.
