Youngest Person with Bionic Hand
Part of our reading program includes reading and responding to articles from
Kiwikidsnews. This includes news from Aotearoa and from the world.
Article
1. Find a quote from the main person in this news article?
“I got it put on about two days ago. It feels quite heavy. I can stick my thumb up. I can make a pinch grip, I can get a grip for cutting with a knife,” Josh said. That is all the article mentions about any statements.
2. In your own words describe what happened in this news article.
Nine year-old Josh Cathcart was born without a right hand from the elbow down. Josh is now the youngest person to ever get a bionic hand. He is very happy for he used to get badly bullied.
3. Find out where this event took place and include some information about this place.
The article has mentioned only a bit of information that is was in Scotland.
4. Tell us when this event happened and explain what might happen in the future.
The article was written on the 26ht of August and it also mentions that Josh got his new arm two days before the article was written. I think that they will try make a newer version of the arm and try to sent to other places.
5. Explain in your own words why this event took place.
This is unexplainable because this would have never happened if Josh wasn't born with a right hand.
6. Use the Dictionary in the bottom right hand corner to find the meaning of 3 words from the article.
bionic - Having artificial body parts, especially electromechanical ones.
electrodes - Having artificial body parts, especially electromechanical ones.
prosthesis - An artificial body part.

Creepy Ultrasound
Part of our reading program includes reading and responding to articles from
Kiwikidsnews. This includes news from Aotearoa and from the world.
Article:
1. Find a quote from the main person in this news article?
The article does not mention any statements from the parents or anyone else included in the article.
2. In your own words describe what happened in this news article.
Soon to be parents sometimes like to get a 4D Ultrasound. One couple got quite a shocking fright. The screen showed a baby with white eyes and what looks like an evil smirk.
3. Find out where this event took place and include some information about this place.
The article has yet again not provided the audience/readers where the whereabouts was when this event happened.
4. Tell us when this event happened and explain what might happen in the future.
The article does not mention an exact date but the article was written on the 14th of August, so I’m estimating it was before this. I am hoping for the soon to be parents that this was just a glitch and that their future will be bright.
5. Explain in your own words why this event took place.
There is no logical explanation for what happened.
6. Use the Dictionary in the bottom right hand corner to find the meaning of 3 words from the article.
Ultrasound- An ultrasound scan, especially one of a pregnant woman to examine the fetus.
Distorted- Pulled or twisted out of shape.
Appeared - Come into sight.

5 Year Old Hero
Part of our reading program includes reading and responding to articles from
Kiwikidsnews. This includes news from Aotearoa and from the world.
1. Find a quote from the main person in this news article?
The article does not mention any statements from Lexi or the Shymanski family.
2. In your own words describe what happened in this news article.
A 5 year old Canadian girl Lexi Shymanski was named a hero after saving her mother and 10 week old brother from a horrendous car crash. After her mother fell asleep while driving, while the SUV served down a 40-foot ridge.
3. Find out where this event took place and include some information about this place.
The article has yet again missed out on informing the audience with one of the most important part like the place accepted they only said that is was in Canada.
4. Tell us when this event happened and explain what might happen in the future.
It only mentions that the article is written on the 7th of August so I’m estimating it was before that. I am now hoping that the parents are going to be extra careful on the road.
5. Explain in your own words why this event took place.
I think the mother has been through a trough and tiring day. Which causes her to fall asleep behind the wheel.
6. Use the Dictionary in the bottom right hand corner to find the meaning of 3 words from the article.
horrific - causing horror.
Paramedic- a person who is trained to do medical work
